With the oil just appearing at surface and into the 2nd crack, this is one of our favorites and “must have” coffees. It is also in my perfect blend for dark roast, used for espresso and etc. 50% Brazilian, 25% Kenyan and 25% Sumatra. Technically should be all roasted separately rhen blended, but I roasted them all together. I am a popcorn popper roaster (love it), used 4 ounces of Brazillian, 2 ounces of Kenyan and 2 ounces of Sumatra for a 1/2 pound single roasting and it is incredible!

Received for free in the Intl. Coffee Day Sample Pack (thanks CBC!). I've been wanting to try this, so that was easy. Roasted to Full City+ in an SR800 with extension tube. Took to 30 seconds into 2nd crack, ~ 500°, 9 1/2 minutes to cool cycle. I've read that Sumatran beans are very dense, and take heat well. Wanted a darker roast for this bean, but the roast actually got away from me a little and went slightly darker than I had intended. Still, the flavor of the bean wasn't overwhelmed by the roast. Bold, yet smooth. Earthy, but not scorched earth. Some dark roasts tend to "come up" on me, but this one didn't. Will try again at just slightly less heat and roast time to see how it tastes, but anyone who likes a solid dark roast, so much better than anything commercial, will be really impressed.

Purchased as recommended, this has become my favorite coffee! I'm drinking a medium roast but will try others. This will definitely be my first 5 - maybe 10 - pound bag!

Roasted to start of second crack on my Behmor 1600. Great chocolate notes with hint of nutty flavor. Excellent for espresso.

As an avid roaster, I have to note that this particular Sumatra is actually surprisingly sweet. Dropped at 395 on a Hottop, the sweetness was a nice surprise. Love this one!

I'm still new to the process of roasting coffee. However, I'm increasingly pleased with the result using the Sumatra Organic Mandehling FTO variety. I find it complex, but not overbearingly so, and somewhat chocolaty. It bears little resemblance to the Sumatra coffees I buy at my neighborhood market.

This was my first break with my new roaster. Sumatra is normally one of my favorites, however I found it disappointing in both medium and dark roasts. I am currently enjoying the Sulawesi, to which I will give high marks.

We love this coffee ☕️ so much it is one we constantly have on hand and order regularly. I am primarily both an organic and medium roast guy. But I do have a few exceptions. This coffee I do dark roast when used part of my own personal blend for an espresso, starts with, Brazilian, then Ethiopian and rounds out with this one from Sumatra! These three contributed to the freshest and best dark roasted espresso, I personally have ever tasted or presently ever intend, to not have on hand to grind and brew or ready to roast!!! And again, as a stand alone medium roast, it is on our list of “must have” to roast and enjoy!!!

As a Sumatra fan, I like even some of the more funky lots, but this one, purchased in November, 2108, is so perfectly balanced it can be enjoyed by all. You know it’s Sumatra, but it just has excellent balance in a medium dark roast, pour over prep or drip.

Sumatra has been a long time favorite of mine, I especially enjoy the depth, as well as the depth it offers to blending with other coffees.

This was my first bean to roast myself. I have roasted it light medium and dark, and they have all been very good. The dark not as good, and I usually prefer dark. I will be ordering again sometime. Plenty of beans to last me a while. I will also experiment with some other beans.
