Customer Reviews
I bought this due to past reviews and the pricing. As a "first timer" I have never roasted coffee, before. I went to the "dark side"/ 2nd crack and it was worth the try, I didn't expect too much from this variety....all in all....it was worth it. I did look for the chocolatey taste...but...maybe my dark roast disguised the flavor. I was very happy with the quick shipping and packaging! I will try again, and maybe… read more with a touch lighter roast, I'll find the chocolate taste!! I bought 3.5 lbs. and I still have plenty left to experiment with! read less
We wanted to try a robusta coffee, and weren't too thrilled with this one. It has a flavor that reminds us of pre-ground coffees from the supermarket, that bitter almost muddy taste that we left behind a long time ago when we went to whole bean. It might be ok in a blend and it definitely has a higher caffeine content, but the taste reminds one of a big can of 'sanka' or 'folgers', not something we'd re-order.
Roasted a batch of these straight, a medium roast just past first crack, and poured it in a container to ripen for a few days, not sure what I was going to do with it. Mistakenly loaded it up in my grinder's hopper yesterday thinking it was a single origin Arabica I wanted to check out. My wife made coffee with it this morning. Very, very interesting! It is chocolatey and fruity as advertised. Not fruity in an… read more Arabica sense but compared to every other Robusta I've tasted it is definitely fruity. We love it! It makes a decent single origin but I expect it will shine best as part of a blend. read less
I roast and mix my espresso beans and I always like to add in 10-15% Robusta beans for the crema, the rounder flavor, and the caffeine boost. This is the first time I've tried the Guatemalan Robusta as opposed to either Vietnamese, Indian, or South American. It was really tasty. It roasted, smelled, tasted, and acted just like I had hoped it would. I debated whether to rate this four or five stars, four because on… read more its own, it's not as 'refined' as other Arabica but I landed on five stars because it delivers exactly what you would expect out of a good Robusta. I will definitely get this again. Nice job. read less
